Welcome to Vermont Adult Learning!

Vermont Adult Learning helps adult learners, ages 16 and older, acquire reading, writing, math, and computer skills to earn high school diplomas/GEDs. We teach English Language Learners skills to advance educationally and at work. We engage in workforce development. Note for in-person learning: We no longer require masks in our learning centers. Anyone at high risk or wishing to continue wearing a mask for other reasons is welcome to do so. We will continue to have masks available in our centers for those who need them.

Those who choose to wear a mask do so because it is a decision they have made for their health and safety. Vermont Adult Learning expects that decision to be respected. If you have concerns about your safety, please let us know so we can discuss options to address them.

Natalie Reigle: Proud of our students (9/16/2021) - Natalie Reigle is our Regional-Director for the Addison County Learning Center. She takes on a number of tasks each day, generally including a series of meetings and discussions with staff from around the state and with students, parents, and drop-by visitors in the Addison Center. Natalie likes to check in to make sure their VAL experience is as positive as possible. David Justice: For the Heart and Soul of the Work (9/9/2021) - David Justice is a jack-of-all-trades here at Vermont Adult Learning. His primary role at VAL is serving as the Director of Reach Up, a Vermont Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program. For this program, David oversees ten employment specialists who work with hundreds of individuals each year to help them with anything related to their employability, including providing opportunities for work placements and credential building, identifying funding sources to support families, networking with businesses and community partners, and supporting job searches. Darlene Cloutier: A Believer in Lifelong Learning (9/1/2021) - Darlene is the Director of Finance and Human Resources and is also responsible for overseeing the IT department at VAL. Darlene loves the variety and many moving parts that these different positions entail, as well as the problem-solving abilities that are required. “I like seeing both sides of things,” she says. Darlene grew up in Canada and after high school, she attended the University of New Brunswick where she earned her degree in Business. Carola: Every day is a learning day (8/25/2021) - Carola was born in Santiago, the capital of Chile. Flanked by the Andes and the Chilean Coastal Range, Santiago hosts six million inhabitants within its urban core. By comparison, Vermont’s current population estimate hovers near 624,000. Carola and her husband ran a shop selling baby clothes.  They arrived in Vermont in November 2016 and were expecting a child.  Carola spoke Spanish; her husband spoke Spanish and English. “We left Santiago for many reasons,” Carola said. “We owned our own home but, sadly, one of our neighbors wasn’t a good neighbor. Esther Behling: Individualizing the Learning Experience (8/16/2021) - Esther Behling is one of VAL’s talented education advisors and teachers at the Windham County VAL in Brattleboro. Originally from New York State, Esther studied education during her undergraduate years at Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont. She went on to receive a Teaching Certificate in Secondary English from Bennington College. From there, Esther worked in the public school field for several years where she taught reading and writing to elementary, middle, and high school students.
