Welcome to Vermont Adult Learning!

Vermont Adult Learning helps adult learners, ages 16 and older, acquire reading, writing, math, and computer skills to earn high school diplomas/GEDs. We teach English Language Learners skills to advance educationally and at work. We engage in workforce development. Note for in-person learning: We no longer require masks in our learning centers. Anyone at high risk or wishing to continue wearing a mask for other reasons is welcome to do so. We will continue to have masks available in our centers for those who need them.

Those who choose to wear a mask do so because it is a decision they have made for their health and safety. Vermont Adult Learning expects that decision to be respected. If you have concerns about your safety, please let us know so we can discuss options to address them.

Volunteer Profile: Larry Buck (3/3/2022) - “I love to volunteer in the community,” Larry said. “I see it as a civic duty.” Larry graduated from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, where he completed an interdisciplinary engineering program.  He studied Energy Systems—the scientific, political and environmental questions about producing energy. Larry was working as a building contractor in Addison County, Vermont, in 2009 when he experienced a life-changing health crisis.  Larry contracted the Swine Flu which triggered a stroke, weakening the left side of his body and compromising his problem-solving abilities while prompting early retirement. Welcome Chris Ettori, Regional Director, at VAL’s Rutland County Learning Center (2/17/2022) - Chris Ettori has been named Regional Director of Vermont Adult Learning’s Rutland Office. He previously worked as assistant director at CCV for over twelve years as well as a faculty member teaching classes in foundational math, computer applications, customer service, and effective workplace communications. Ettori is very active in the Rutland community, having served on numerous boards and committees. Ayla: Asking for help was the best decision I made (2/14/2022) - Ayla was a twenty-eight year old mother, out of school, and without a job.  She was working with Julie Mazzariello, her Reach Up Case Manager at Economic Services, when a spark to do some personal work to build a better life ignited and started to blaze. Mike: VAL helped me set goals for myself (1/20/2022) - “Mike is that star student we all want on our rosters,” said VAL teacher Joy Gaine. “Homework? Done. Appointments? On time. Hard-working? You bet! Even with a full time job and a house full of kids….he is determined and nothing will stop him from reaching his goals.” Mike dropped out of high school in 2004.
