VAL’s DEI Committee recently collaborated with the Vermont Language Justice Project to create a video about understanding your rights during a police stop. As part of our ongoing Know Your Rights workshops, this resource aims to help our students, staff, and broader community safely navigate interactions with law enforcement. The script was reviewed and informed by ACLU-VT and our friends at VLJP were even able to cast an actual South Burlington traffic cop!

Getting pulled over can be a stressful experience made harder by cultural and linguistic barriers. We are proud to have supported and informed the creation of this video, now available in 18 additional languages including American Sign Language, Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, Dari, French, Haitian Kreyol, Kirundi, Maay Maay, Mandarin, Nepali, Pashto, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tigrinya, Ukranian, and Vietnamese.
